PASE Pillars
What Do We Do?
PASE holds many events throughout the school year including Professional Workshops, Design Workshops, Socials, and Video Game Tournaments. Every two years, PASE alternates its largest event: In the odd-numbered years, PASE holds an Engineering Conference, which is an outreach to high school students to motivate them in pursuing higher education with an emphasis in engineering. In the even-numbered years, PASE holds Etiquette Dinner, a professionalism workshop, which teaches students proper etiquette during a dinner-interview setting. PASE also offers professional networking programs: Major Olympics and an alumni mentorship program, PAANO. |
History
In 1980 the Associate Dean of the College of Engineering at UC Davis founded the Pilipino American Society of Engineers (PASE) in response to the increasing need for engineering support for minorities. Created within the College of Engineering, PASE, a non-profit organization, was established to unite the small but evident Filipino American engineering population at the UC Davis campus. In 1997, PASE officially changed its name to Pilipino Americans in Science and Engineering to expand to the needs of Filipino American Students in physical sciences. In 2015, PASE officially changed its name to Pilipinx Americans in Science and Engineering to be more inclusive to those who do not conform to the gender binary. |

Programs
MAJOR OLYMPICS
Introduced in 2016, Major Olympics provides a space for students to learn more about their own majors, other majors that may interest them, and the process of switching majors. There will also be a panel of students and alumni that can provide you more information on applying for jobs, obtaining internships and research positions on campus, and handling the pressures associated with switching majors.
During this event, each person will be assigned a MENTOR or a MENTEE. MENTORS are students who are well-educated about their field and have a general idea of what they want to do with their future. MENTEES are students who are undecided on their major, interested in switching, or looking for more information on their own major.
THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO ALL MAJORS!!! You don't need to be in the STEM field to participate in this event.
PAANO: Pilipinx Americans Aiding in Networking Opportunities
PAANO stands for Pilipinx Americans Aiding in Networking Opportunities. It is a program that PASE at UC Davis is launching to help guide undergraduate students through professional development and career planning. We aim to facilitate students’ first steps towards pursuing graduate education and/or a stable career.
In order for us to achieve this, we ask individuals, to mentor a network of undergraduate students. These networks consist of students with varying backgrounds who are like-minded in their desire to seek guidance and advice that will assist them in carving a path similar to what you have achieved and experienced. The nature of this program is to empower the next generation of professionals through enabling their learning from successful alumni and upper-level students, with the hope that the knowledge will continue to trickle down through each cycle of this program.
